Configure Windows XP to automatically login

If you wish to stop the login screen appearing each time you switch on your Windows XP computer, just follow the below simple steps:

1) Click the ‘Start’ button

2) Select ‘Run’

3) Type ‘CONTROL USERPASSWORDS2’

4) Click ‘OK’

5) Un-check the ‘Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer’ option

6) Click ‘Apply’

7) Enter the username and password of the user you wish your computer to automatically login as.

IMPORTANT:

It is documented that Windows XP Home Edition will not automatically login using the Administrator account. So it is recommended that you create a second user account and make that user a member of the ‘Administrators’ group (if you want to that is).

Generally when you install Windows XP it ask you what usernames you want to create, so the chances are that you won’t need to create an alternative user account.
