Windows tip: Right click end task context menu option

2 December 2024

Do you want to easily force-quit unresponsive applications directly from the Taskbar without needing to open Task Manager? Unfortunately, even in 2024 I still find a need to do this.

Sometimes you can just hover over the item in the Taskbar, click the X and all is good, but often it’s not that straightforward.

So in this article I’ll show you how to add an addition ‘End Task’ option to the right click context menu.

Step-by-Step Instructions for the adding the End Task item to the context menu:

1. Press Windows + I to directly open the Settings app

2. Navigate to Developer Settings by selecting ‘Settings’ from the left menu, then ‘For developers’ on the right

3. Enable End Task Option

4. Right click on a program in the taskbar, and you should now see the ‘End task’ option
